Breathtaking Backdrops for Unforgettable Moments
One of the most exciting parts of planning your photo session is choosing the perfect location. Luckily, the Seattle area is full of stunning spots that range from lush gardens to epic mountain views.
Whether you're dreaming of golden hour magic, forest trails, waterfalls, or something totally unique—there’s a place here that will make your session feel like you.
Here are some of my favorite tried-and-true portrait locations in and around Seattle:
🏔 1. Mount Rainier National Park
For epic, breathtaking views
If you're looking for something wild, powerful, and unforgettable, Mt. Rainier is the spot. With snow-capped peaks, alpine meadows, and sweeping valleys, it’s the kind of place where every shot looks like it belongs on a postcard.
Best for: Adventure couples, elopements, dreamy maternity sessions
Pro Tip: Summer and early fall are best for wildflowers and mountain access. Always bring layers—it can get chilly, even in July!
🌸 2. Kubota Garden
For tranquil beauty and garden vibes
Tucked away in South Seattle, Kubota Garden is a hidden gem full of vibrant greenery, bridges, waterfalls, and Japanese-inspired landscaping. It’s peaceful, romantic, and full of variety.
Best for: Family sessions, engagement shoots, maternity, senior portraits
Pro Tip: Weekday mornings offer the best light and fewer crowds. The colors are gorgeous year-round, but fall is next-level here.
💧 3. Rattlesnake Lake
For open skies, reflections, and a mountain backdrop
This lake is a short drive from Seattle and offers a dreamy, natural setting with plenty of space to explore. The water, stumps, and surrounding trees make it perfect for a rustic, outdoorsy session.
Best for: Engagements, family photos, or solo sessions with a serene vibe
Pro Tip: Sunrise sessions are magical here—and often less crowded than sunset.
🌲 4. Franklin Falls
For adventurous, moody magic
Want waterfall photos? Franklin Falls delivers. It’s a relatively short and easy hike that leads to a stunning, misty waterfall surrounded by mossy rock and evergreen forest. It feels like a Pacific Northwest fairy tale.
Best for: Elopements, adventure couples, bold maternity sessions
Pro Tip: Bring hiking shoes and be ready to get a little wet. The trail is best from late spring to early fall (and it’s closed in winter).
🏞 5. Discovery Park
For golden light and natural variety
Located right in Seattle, Discovery Park offers forest trails, open fields, beach access, and bluff views—all in one place. It’s one of my favorite go-to spots for sessions that feel both wild and intimate.
Best for: Family, maternity, seniors, or couples who want that golden, glowy light
Pro Tip: The South Bluff Trail during golden hour is absolutely stunning. Wear shoes you can walk in—some trails can be uneven.
🌆 6. Kerry Park
For iconic city skyline shots
If you're looking for that classic “Seattle skyline with the Space Needle” photo, Kerry Park is the place. It’s small but mighty, offering panoramic views that light up at sunset.
Best for: City-loving couples, proposals, or quick sessions with a dramatic backdrop
Pro Tip: Arrive early to find parking and avoid the crowds—sunset can get busy.
✨ Bonus: Make It Your Own
I love helping clients choose a location that fits their vibe. Whether you're into forest hikes, quiet gardens, or mountain backdrops, we’ll find the spot that tells your story in a way that feels real and beautiful.
